Do you have video cameras?
Many Extra Space Storage facilities use video cameras as a security measure. Cameras are generally located at the point of entry and exit and other areas around the facility. The number of cameras and the type of system that is installed at each facility will vary based on the design of the facility.
Can anybody drive onto this property or do you need a PIN number?
Most of our facilities have an electronic gate system which can only be opened by a security code that is assigned to each individual tenant. The code allows us to monitor who is entering and exiting the facility.
Do I get a lock when I rent a unit?
You can purchase a new lock at your local Extra Space Storage facility. We offer a variety of sizes and types of locks and recommend purchasing a disc lock to ensure the highest level of security.
Do you offer RV/boat/car/motorcycle parking?
Extra Space Storage offers parking for RVs, boats, cars and motorcycles, but this is not a standard offering at all locations. Find the closest location to see if the service is available or use the Storage Search feature on this page to search for locations in your area with this offering.
What's the difference between office hours and gate hours?
The office hours are the hours of operation for the property. During these hours the Store Manager will be available to assist you with your storage needs or moving and packing supplies. The gate hours are the hours of the property, and when your unit can be accessed. If you require access outside of our standard gate hours ask your Store Manager for information about 24-hour access.
What kind of security do you have?
Extra Space Storage takes great pride in protecting your belongings and strives to provide state-of-the-art security. We feature electronic gate with coded access, monitored video surveillance, fenced and well-lit facilities, individual door alarms and personal locks available for purchase. These features vary by location so contact the Store Manager for details about a specific location.
What do I need to do to move out?
We require two days verbal OR 15 days written notice before vacating. We ask that you stop into our office and fill out a vacate card. We will prorate your last month of rent (charging you only for the days you use) as long as we have been notified prior to receiving your last month’s payment. On your scheduled move-out day make sure the unit is completely empty, your lock has been removed and the store manager has inspected the unit.
How can I report any maintenance issues such as a light out, or a gate not opening?
During office hours, please report the issue to the manager onsite immediately. If you notice the issue after office hours, please contact our National Sales Center at 888-STORAGE to report it.
How do I cancel my reservation?
You can cancel your reservation by contacting or visiting the facility where the unit is reserved. Make sure to check for office hours so you’ll reach a store manager who can work with you to cancel your reservation.
Do you hold auctions at your storage facilities?
We hold monthly auctions at all of our facilities. You can contact a storage facility in the area to find out when they will be held.
Do you allow bands to practice on your facility or in your units?
Our storage units are only for storing your belongings. We do not allow bands to practice in our units or at our facilities.
Am I able to cancel my insurance online?
You’ll need to contact your local storage facility to cancel your insurance. This is not something you can do online from the
My Account section.
What is the “Refer a Friend” program?
Referring a friend to Extra Space can help you save up to $50 on your monthly rent! Refer a Friend coupons are available at any Extra Space Storage location - simply fill out the coupon form and give it to a friend. When your friend rents a storage unit they will receive up to their first month free and you can get up to $50 off your next month's rent. This offer is only valid for new rentals by new customers, please see the store manager for additional details.
How do I set up automatic payments (AutoPay) for my account?
You can sign up for automatic payments at any time by completing an AutoPay form at your facility or by following these instructions to set it up through your online account:
- Sign In to your account and click the “Pay Online” link located on the left side of the My Account section
- Click on the tab labeled “Automatic Payment” and complete the three step process
- Once finished, submit by clicking on “Start Autopay”
What if I am late in making my payment?
Your monthly rent is due on the same day each month (the anniversary date of the rental). Extra Space Storage provides a five day grace period before charging a late fee on the 6th day past a payment due date. Late fees cannot be waived and no partial payments are accepted. Refer to your lease or your storage facility for further details.
