Yesterday, Idaho legislators concluded two days of hearings concerning restrictions on the types of property that the Idaho Land Board can purchase. Legislators will take the information from the hearings and write a proposal that provides updated regulation on how the Board manages the land held in the trust and how the Board can invest the money from land-sale proceeds.

There is an old saying that everyone has heard whenever a family member, girlfriend, or boyfriend moves away—absence makes the heart grow fonder. A similar concept applies in the business world, but it is more like recognition and not absence that makes the heart (of tenants) grow fonder.

Storage facility owners are very service oriented and dedicated to giving a helping hand to people in their community. They donate books to libraries, school supplies to elementary school children, toys to needy children at Christmas time, and support to organizations that help veterans, troops overseas, and military families. And now, one facility will be assisting new mothers. Manhattan Mini Storage announced that it will support Room to Grow, a nonprofit organization in New York City that supports low income families raising babies. Room to Grow provides training and support to low income expectant mothers for the first three years of their baby's life. They also provide the mothers with new or lightly used baby items.

Extra Space Storage spokesman, Clint Halverson, reported that approximately one-third of their properties and customers were located in areas hit by Hurricane Irene. It is too early just yet to tell the extent of the damage done to any of their storage facilities.

Often times the United States ends up being the unofficial testing ground for the future trends the world falls in love with. In the 1960s it was the first to give self storage facilities a try. Fast forward to the present day and self storage has become a $20 billion a year industry.

Yesterday, Houston-based Proguard Self Storage company announced the winner of their Facebook giveaway that they dubbed "Celebrate Houston." Winner of the giveaway received a pair of Mezzanine tickets to a Houston Astros game at the Minute Maid Park. An all-you-can-eat pass to the Park's snack items of peanuts, popcorn, nachos, hotdogs, and soda pop was also included.
