Owners and managers of self storage facilities are very community minded. They like to help out and give back to the community where their facility is located. They also like to help out charitable organizations. Over the years, we at the Self Storage Industry News have written about many of the organizations that have been helped: Habitat for Humanity, Wounded Warrior Outdoors, Inc., Angel Flight, the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Toys for Tots, Kure It, and Moveable feast.

Airport Mini Storage is hosting the first rummage sale fundraiser for Steppin' On Up. The fundraiser will be held at the storage facility at 7044 Arlington Ave. in Riverside, California. It will be held this Saturday, June 9, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Paul Ridenour, senior vice president for construction and development at Derrel’s Mini Storage, recently met with the Clovis city council. He requested that the city lower the development fees that the city charges mini storage businesses. He presented information that indicated that some of the fees, especially water and sewer, may be excessive for mini storage facilities.

One of the great things about living in just about any community in the United States is that if there is something that enough of the people do not like that the local government entity can pass a law to either regulate or ban it all together. On the flip side, if they later see that the law does not work or was wrong to begin with that can change to.
