Wounded Warrior Outdoors Encourages Donations from Self Storage Facilities

Self storage companies are famous for supporting charitable organizations, especially organizations that are focused on helping veterans, troops overseas, or military families. But Wounded Warrior Outdoors may be the only such charity that was actually founded by members of the self storage industry. Wounded Warrior, which offers injured veterans and disabled veterans from the United States and Canada a chance to recuperate while on a hunting trip in British Columbia, has announced that it is starting a new campaign: One for the Troops. Colorado Self Storage Company Donates on Behalf of Hospitalized Children

A Centennial, Colorado self storage company has decided to celebrate its grand opening next month by donating a percentage of its rents, along with an additional $1,500, to a nonprofit organization that helps families of children who have been hospitalized.

The self storage company, Cutting Edge Self Storage, has been working to find ways to support its new community and to blend in. One part of its effort to blend in has been designing the building so that it fits into its neighborhood architecturally. [More]

FL Self-Storage Company Offers Free Storage to Local Diaper Bank

Quality Self Storage, of North Fort Myers, Florida, started donating space to Destiny Diaper Bank this month, helping to make it possible for Destiny to expand its services to the North Fort Myers area. Quality Self Storage will also host a fundraiser for the diaper bank on April 24.

Destiny Diaper Bank is the only diaper bank in the state of Florida. It is a nonprofit organization, headquartered in Cape Coral, FL, that provides diapers and incontinence supplies to individuals and families who cannot afford to purchase their own. The diapers and supplies are used by babies, toddlers, special needs children, and the elderly. The diaper bank's founder, Rev. Rebecca Hines, who has lived in Cape Coral since 1978, says that the need for the diaper service is high right now, because there is so much unemployment in Lee County. She says that Destiny receives between 40 and 50 calls a day from people who need diapers. Some days, the diaper bank receives 60 calls. [More]

Texas SSA Donates $33,000 to Shriners Children's Hospital

The Texas Self Storage Association announced this morning that it has donated almost $33,000 to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Galveston. The money will be used to help pay for medical treatment for critically burned children. The Shriners Children's Hospital has specialized in burn treatment and research since its opening in the mid-1960s. In addition to treating burn injuries and scarring, the hospital also provides physical rehabilitation and treatment of emotional trauma. Shriners Children's Hospital does not charge for treatment; children are admitted to the hospital based on their need for its services.

TSSA Executive Director Ginny Sutton and Director of Marketing and Membership Silvia Pendleton presented the donation to the hospital's Donor Relations representative, Jim Smith, at the TSSA's Round Rock offices on January 6. [More]

Self Storage Companies Support Toys for Tots

Families who make a habit of cleaning out closets and basements to prepare for the holidays can kill two birds with one stone this year: putting seasonal items into storage and donating to Toys for Tots. Many self storage companies and associations nationwide are participating in the Toys for Tots program. Self storage facilities are collecting and storing toys, and, as the holidays approach, will serve as distribution points for the campaign as well. [More]
