Teeny Homes Equal Big Opportunities for Self Storage in the UK

In the United States in 1973, the average square feet per home was 1,660. In 2010, the average home was 2,392. That was a substantial increase in size.

In 2009, an average-sized home in the tiny country of Denmark was 1,474 square feet. On the other side of the world, the average-sized home in Costa Rica on 2010 was 2,000 square feet.

Two self storage facilities in Wyoming will be holding their second annual garage sale and raffle. Walsh Drive Storage in Casper and Interstate Storage Solutions in Evansville are sponsoring this event as a fund raiser for the Youth Crisis Center (YCC). Last year their garage sale raised $5,000. The Ultimate Climate Controlled Storage: Salt Mines

Manchester Central Library, in Manchester, England, has sent 1.5 million of its books into a deep underground storage unit, to wait there while the library undergoes renovations. The books represent about 22 miles of shelving, and are the rarest, oldest members of Manchester Central Library's collection. Some of the books date back to the 15th century. They are being stored in Deepstore, an underground specialist storage space maintained by the town of Winsford -- in its salt mine. [More]

Former UK Cotton Mill Becomes Self Storage Site

A historic UK building that used to be a working cotton mill has been purchased by Alligator Self Storage, which will make it into a self storage facility....the five-story historic mill will become Alligator Self Storage's first northwest site. Alligator's CEO, Alister Jack, commented to the Bolton News: "Self storage businesses are a veritable Aladdin's cave....When you convert a building like Egyptian Mill to become a storage centre, the diversity of uses for the building is incredible. We anticipate all sorts of businesses will make use of the space, from builders and plumbers using it as a lock-up, to lawyers and accountants using it for archive space." [More]
