A recent article in the Washington Post indicated several signs that the economy in the United States is still slowly recovering. Because home foreclosures have dropped, the housing market is moving and sales are up. Loans have been repaid. Personal finances have improved. People are more willing to eat out, shop, or go on a vacation. Businesses are expanding. And Storage Post self storage is part of the upward swing in the economy. [More]

Springtime is a time of new growth in the natural world. Trees and shrubs are starting to leaf out. Tulips and daffodils are blooming. Many animals give birth to their young. It’s a time of coming out of hibernation and the doldrums of winter. The world of self storage seems to be coming out of hibernation, too. Additions are being added to facilities while other facilities are finding buyers. [More]

bSome days in the news, the self storage industry is quiet. Not much happens. Other days, it’s a flurry of activities. Today, it’s a flurry.
Changes are coming to the small town of Busti, New York. Busti is on the south end of Chautauqua Lake. It has a population of 7,000. Their town board held a public hearing on the Joe Casel’s proposal to add self storage units to his business. He owns Casel Auto Wrecking and seeks a special-use permit. When I was a senior in high school, I learned how to play Tara’s Theme on the piano. The music is from the movie “Gone with the Wind.” I loved the music and I loved the movie. (I always felt that Scarlett was foolish to love Ashley, who was such a milquetoast, instead of Rhett, who was so dashing and derring-do.) So I felt great sadness when I read about a fire that destroyed memorabilia from the movie. [More]

Yesterday on the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, people in the United States spent time honoring and remembering the victims in the horrific events that happened that day. In New York City, churches tolled their bells at 8:46 a.m. - the time when the first plane struck the north tower. Then, they tolled at 9:03, when American Airlines Flight 175 hit the south tower; at 9:37 when American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon; at 9:59 when the south tower fell; and at 10:03 when Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania; and at 10:28 when the north tower fell.
At ground zero, family members recited the names of the dead. President Obama quoted from the 46th Psalm. Mr. George Bush quoted from an 1864 letter that Abraham Lincoln wrote to a mother whose two sons were killed in the Civil War. Musical numbers rang through the crisp fall air. James Kosior, remembered, too. He filmed the events on September 11 from a fire escape on the building where he lived. [More]
