In 2003, family, friends, and local investors opened Old Barn Self-Storage in Grass Valley, California. Things were looking good even though there was stiff competition locally. Then, the economic walls came tumbling down. Sometimes, nation-wide companies can more easily weather rough financial times than mom-and-pop self storage facilities. Old Barn Self-Storage sits atop a hill. In the valley below, 25,000 motorists drive by – many times getting a chuckle and something to brighten their day. The source of the chuckle is a huge sign that says “Happy.” Depending on the time of year or season the sign might say something like “Happy Cow” or Happy Graduates” or Happy Father’s Day.” [More]
