Remember back to Britain’s Got Talent? Remember in April of 2009 when Susan Boyle, a totally unknown woman, sang on the show and stunned everybody when she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables? By November of that same year, her first album, I Dreamed a Dream, debuted and was the number one best-selling album on music charts around the world. That album remains the best-selling debut album of all time in the UK. She has since released 2 other albums and as of April 2012 has a net worth estimated at $34 million (U.S. dollars).

As our readers have probably noticed, we report about what is happening around the United States - and even the world - in the self storage industry. We report what is in the news with many other businesses and how they are doing. It is interesting to note the growth and improvements that other facilities are making.

Every year the Self Storage Association of the UK (SSAUK) commissions a report on the status of the self-storage industry in Britain. The 2009 report, which was released this week, was, like the CREF conference of mortgage bankers which also met recently, cautiously optimistic about the future of the self-storage industry in 2010.
The report noted that in 2009, the number of self-storage facilities in Britain increased by four percent. Four percent is a slower growth rate than the industry had enjoyed over the past five years, when growth rates ranged from eight to 15 percent. The SSAUK said that there is room for more growth in the future as the industry catches up with self-storage markets that are more established, such as the American market.
