Exercise, eat right, brush your teeth, get regular checkups, and rent a self storage space— not exactly things that you would expect to see together, but each member of the list is related to a central idea. It may sound hard to believe, but they all have something to do with improving your health.

Everyone likes to be recognized for doing something well; and even more so when they are considered the best at what they do. The feeling of success that comes with the accolades helps make all the hard work worthwhile. When it comes to the self storage industry (and other businesses) accolades are more than just a pat on the back.

The birds are chirping, the allergies are going crazy, coats are being stored away, and shorts are becoming the norm—it is spring time. It is time for the kids to play outside, for Dad to mow the lawn, lazy days in the pool, and for self storage facilities across the country to start holding outdoor events.

Gordon Gekko told us in the 1987 movies Wall Street that greed is good. While that mentality may be appropriate for keeping a business on track fiscally it ignores an important aspect of business—community. Many members of the self storage industry make every effort to be as much of a success in the community as in the ledger.

Everyone knows one if they don’t have one of their own. That person that stands out from the rest for all the wrong reasons, but he or she is allowed to continue coming back due to some sort of relationship with the whole however thin it might be. We jokingly call that person the “black sheep” to signify their status as present, but unwanted.

People that are interested in making New Year’s Resolutions have likely made them by now. Some have probably even broken them too (that’s okay; still plenty of time to rededicate oneself to the cause). One self storage company recently made an effort to help people get on track for one common resolution—but not the one you are probably thinking.

During this time of year the need to give to those less fortunate is something that many look to do. There is just something that brings out the good in people and encourages them to do unto others as they would have others do unto them. Many businesses can be found—self storage and otherwise—set up to help individuals give whatever they can.

When it comes to charitable efforts the self storage industry is well known for its philanthropic contributions. Self Storage facilities across the country get involved in their communities all the time. However, it is not as common for them to engage in charity efforts that aid an area other than their local community.

Many people think that the toughest thing involved in business—self storage or otherwise-- is the whole process involved in getting it open and off the ground. There are others that would counter and say that starting the business is not the hardest thing, but is actually pretty cut and dry. You know exactly what you need to do. The toughest part is something else entirely.
