This month, the Johnson and Ellis Counties in Texas launched a new segment to their Meals-on-Wheels program. They are now delivering dog and cat food to their clients who own those types of pets.
Linda Deese, with Meals-on-Wheels, indicated that pets provide senior citizens with friendship, joy, and a reason for living. However, many times those seniors do not have money to buy food for themselves or for their pets. Meals-on-Wheel volunteers often see the seniors sharing their delivered meal with their pet. People have always speculated what life would be like in the future. In 1910, people envisioned flying firemen and policemen (with wings on their back), robot-like barbers, an electric train from Paris to Beijing, and a phonographic machine that read the newspaper out loud to people. Other than ‘hearing’ the newspaper (via radio), none of these ideas came about.
If the pioneers in the self storage industry had ever speculated what the self storage industry would be like in 2013, they probably wouldn’t imagine some of the marvelous qualities and characteristics that the industry has today. Self storage companies are known for caring about the communities that they are in. There are a number of different strategies that facilities take into their charitable activities with no one being more right than another. The important thing is the work they accomplish helping others whether it is for five people or fifty-five people. [More]

There are approximately seven billion people in the world; around 312 million of them live in the United States alone. If we lived in a perfect world filled with so many people every one of them would go to bed with a full belly, but sadly that is not the case here in the U.S. or abroad. [More]

Over 8 million seniors in America face hunger every day. Senior women are more likely to face the threat of hunger than men. The number of seniors in rural areas or small towns that face the threat of hunger is significantly higher than those living in metropolitan areas. [More]

Be prepared. It’s a pretty simple statement; one that has been the motto of the Boy Scouts of America for decades. When it comes to being prepared for the holiday season, which is often easier said than done, people will do whatever it takes.
