Westy Self Storage is very community minded and supports many local charities. They have helped the Habitat for Humanity, been a drop-off location for winter coat drives, participated in recycling drives for bottles and cans, and collected toys for the Toys for Tots program. Helping animal shelters is a community service that many self storage facilities assist with and support. It’s totally amazing all of the activities in the self storage industry. All of these happenings indicate that the industry is strong, vibrant, and growing. Here are three news items across the United States that are examples of what is going on.
First, a Charolotte-based self storage company bought a storage facility in Virginia-Highland. (Virginia-Highland is a neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia, that was named after the intersection of two streets Virginia Avenue and North Highland Avenue. That is the heart of a busy commercial center of the neighborhood.) The facility was purchased for $6.1 million dollars. [More]

It's raining in Colorado. Over the last 24 hours they have been inundated with rain. Boulder got 9 inches. Louisville got 6.6. Estes Park got 5 inches. Rain is expected to continue through Friday. Roads are closed. Schools are closed. People have been ordered to evacuate some of the areas. Flash flood warnings are out in many areas.
Rain and flooding is also a concern for citizens in the Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook, New Jersey - and for Lackland Self Storage. [More]

Graduation for seniors in high school is a big event. Many high schools provide the graduates with fun graduation activities after the graduation ceremonies area over. Storm Sandy filled homes, roads, and cars with sand and water. The water is gone but the sand remains. Homes were destroyed or seriously damaged. Now, soggy belongings, garbage, and debris that used to be furniture are piled high in city streets. And winter is relentlessly marching in. [More]

In President Lyndon Johnson's State of the Union address in 1964, he declared an unconditional war on America's poverty. He challenged citizens to step up and do what they could to help out. A group of concerned people in Orange County, New York, decided to act on Johnson's plea and in 1965 they formed the Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP). Their mission was to mobilize and coordinate public and private resources to fill the needs of low-income people within the county. [More]
