Self storage owners are very community minded. They participate in events that support those in need in their community. They help charitable and non-profit organizations. They collect coats, hats, gloves, and food. They sponsor college scholarships, high school bands, singing groups, sports teams, and school libraries. One self storage facility is branching out to an unusual event is sponsoring a division of car racing.

Before a self storage owner builds a new facility, he needs to take several things into consideration. He looks at the market feasibility. Are there other self storage facilities in the area? What is the makeup of the housing market (single family homes, apartments) and the population density? Do typical homes in the area have basements or garages? Is there a need for businesses to have storage units or flexible office space? Is there a military base in the area, or a university or resort? Knowing the answers to these types of questions helps the owner to know which areas would be good to build in.

Many entrepreneurs and small business owners only occasionally need an office space. Because they don’t need an office all of the time, it doesn’t make financial sense to rent traditional office space.
Self storage businesses have recognized that need that small business owners have and many have created places within their storage facilities to fill those needs for temporary office space.

AXA ART announced that Armstrong Fine Art Services was awarded the coveted artprotect™ certification. This certification rates a storage facility's ability to properly store and protect fine art and collectibles from damage, theft, and destruction.

The rules regarding who can run in the election for mayor of a town are much the same in most of the world’s democracies. Elections laws customarily require that candidates live in the town, be of a certain age, be a citizen of the country in which the town is located, etc. The rules are not much different in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada. But a man who lives in nearby Niagara Falls has found a way to bend them. He has rented a St. Catharine’s self storage unit and has listed it as his residence in St. Catharine’s, allowing him to enter the St. Catharine’s mayoral race.

Canadian pop band Michou has gone on tour this summer to promote its new album, Cardona. But before leaving for their tour, the foursome recorded one of the songs from the album as a music video. The video, “Eavesdropping,” shows the members of the band making their way through a self storage facility, as thousands of yellow balloons cascade around them. Eventually the band ends up on the beach. The song can be found in You Tube music videos, or at the band’s own website. “Eavesdropping” is not Michou’s first music video -- or its first album.
