Typically a self storage unit has been the place where something has been hidden or the location of some sort of crime, but in recent years the industry has stepped out and started to take a leading role in some programs.

He teaches you how to throw a baseball, attends every dance recital, and knows all the words to the Mickey Mouse theme song. Everybody who is anybody has heard of social media. Facebook. Twitter. Foursquare. Flickr. Instagram. The new kid on the social media block is Pinterest.
According to Pinterest, it is a tool for collecting and organizing things that you love. Think of it as a bulletin board. You cut out a newspaper article and pin it to your bulletin board. Or a recipe. Or a picture of a new couch that you are thinking about buying.

How often have you been watching a movie and the bad guys kept something in a self storage unit? Can you count the number of times that the police have opened up a self storage unit on a television show only to find evidence of some sort of crime? Self storage facilities and their units often have bit parts in the movies—so why not put the movies on them?

The business of self storage is at its heart a very simple one. People are out of space either at home or at the office and it just doesn’t always make sense to move to a different building or find another home. You just need to find some extra space—hence the popularity of the self storage industry.
