by John Stevens March 18, 2014 11:50 PM
Part of the reason the self storage industry is such a success is that there is a never ending need for more space. Until the day that it is cheaper and easier to move in to a larger house (never) people will always have a need for self storage. However, while the industry has worked hard to overcome the negative stereotype (that they are a blight on the image of a community) one can’t help but wonder if we could do better. [More]

Self Storage Auction Yields Human Skull

by Holly Robinson March 17, 2014 7:56 PM
Remember the scene in Hamlet where two gravediggers argue whether or not Ophelia should be buried in a churchyard since her death looks like a suicide? Hamlet comes along and wonders about the skulls that they dig up to make room for a fresh grave. Hamlet then picks up a skull and the gravedigger says that it is the skull of Yorick. At just about every stage of the education system there is one thing that every teacher wants to encourage and have students engage in—teamwork. Not on every individual assignment of course (since that would be cheating), but on certain group based tasks. The idea was to combine the separate expertise of individuals in hopes of completing a better final product. [More]

When it comes to the self storage industry there are certain things that come to mind right off the bat in regards to what is normally stored in a unit. Social media has become a juggernaut. Whether you’re talking about the millions upon millions of users on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the many other forms to the billions of dollars some of these entities are now worth the influence that some social media outlets have is impressive to say the least. If used right—like how many members of the self storage do—they can be a boon for business as well. [More]

by Kim Kilpatrick March 5, 2014 6:51 PM
I recently read an article about a self storage business that had had a fire. Immediately after the fire, tenants were not allowed to get to their units to check on their belongings. A day passed. Several days passed. They still weren’t allowed to be on the premise. [More]

It Was an Active Year for the Self Storage Industry in 2013

by Holly Robinson March 4, 2014 11:51 PM
When people look back at the end of a year they like to see certain things. Did they do anything? Did they grow—physically and metaphorically? Did they just watch the world go by or were they actively trying to make their mark in it? Does the future look any better for what they did or didn’t do? [More]

by Tony Gonzalez March 4, 2014 7:44 PM
House insurance. Car insurance. Life insurance. People who sell these types of insurance are required by law to have a license to sell it. A recent brouhaha is stirring in Alabama concerning self storage facilities that require tenants to buy insurance to protect their belongings that they store in the facility. Some of the people in Alabama are unhappy about this requirement. [More]
