The clock is ticking down to January 1, 2014. That date is the deadline when the total law for “Obamacare” goes into effect.
The Self Storage Association (SSA), the official trade organization and voice of the American and International self storage-industry, announced that it has expanded its health insurance coverage. SSA members will now be able to participate in the SSA Health Insurance Marketplace, a private healthcare exchange program created by SSA partnering with MiniCo Insurance Agency.

Self storage companies are well-known for supporting their communities and giving back to numerous charities. There are some companies that make charitable work a cornerstone of their business by paying employees when they volunteer at a local charity for a given number of hours. As important as this is to them, they don’t forget what matters most—taking care of each other.

It is kind of hard to do something—anything—if you don’t know enough about. Yes, you can accomplish a task even if you are not sure what you are doing or even open a business without knowing much about it either. However, in the process you will find that achieving success will be harder, mistakes will be more common, unnecessary expenses will be incurred, and in the business world failure is imminent.

There are plenty of people that like to think they can do it—whatever ‘it’ may be—alone; that they don’t need any help or assistance from anyone. While they might be successful on occasion, the road is much tougher when it is travelled on solo. However, when you let your friends give you a helping hand along the way success can be achieved much, much easier.

It is not uncommon for major companies and organizations to get involved in some sort of charity work. Often times it is there way of giving back to the community that has helped make them the success that they are. However, if you ask whomever is in charge of charitable activities for these organizations they will all complain about the same problem.

Whenever budding entrepreneurs and inventors try to come up with the next great ‘thing’ they often look to existing ideas for inspiration, something that they believe they can make even better. Often times this train of thought fails, but on occasion the marriage of two good ideas has been known to result in something that is absolutely brilliant.

Have you ever wondered where your money is going when you donate it to a charity? Have you ever heard about those organizations where a portion—sometimes a significant one—is used to cover “administrative costs?” Did it make you angry when you heard that of your $100 donation only $35 went to the actual cause?

We’ve all seen them. In fact, in some parts of the country they have been a part of the landscape for so long that we drive right on by them without even recognizing that they are there. However, in recent years there have been more and more people finding that they need some more space, and they are starting to take notice of where their local self storage facility is.

The self storage industry has seen a boon in business in recent years while the nation has been undergoing some rough economic times. Although business has been good overall, an increase in business in general has also resulted in an increase in a part of the business that is not so good—liens and auctions.

The concept may seem a little silly or overblown; if something had any real value people wouldn’t throw it away, right?
