Self Storage Lien Law Legislation Moves Along in Ten States With Latest Victory in Illinois

The Self Storage Association’s (SSA) aggressive efforts to update archaic lien laws throughout the country is slowly paying off. The latest victory is Senate Bill 1394 (SB 1394) that will modernize the Illinois Self Service Storage Facility Act. Illinois Joins Ranks of States Looking to Change Lien Laws for Storage Auctions

Illinois lien law legislation is making headway in congress despite opposition from the Press Association whose newspapers would lose revenue if the changes are passed. Introduced to the Illinois 97th General Assembly in February, the lien law was passed through the Commerce Committee and now moves to the Senate. [More]

Two States Tackle Proposed Changes to Lien Laws

Both Nevada and Florida are considering changes to their states’ self storage lien laws. The Self Storage Association and the Florida Self Storage Association (FSSA) are gearing up to discuss improvements in lien laws with the House Civil Justice Subcommittee and at a hearing in Tallahassee, Fla., tomorrow. Nevada state lawmakers are reviewing Senate Bill 150, which would amend the state statutes governing self storage and make several changes to existing self storage lien laws. [More]

Colorado Might Join Ranks of States With More Lax Self Storage Lien Laws

Colorado could join states like California and Nevada when it comes to more relaxed lien laws for self storage auctions. Coming up on Jan. 31, the first senate hearing on a Colorado bill to modernize the state’s self storage lien law will be held. The Colorado Self Storage Association (CoSSA) along with financial backing from the national Self Storage Association (SSA), introduced the bill in mid January and representatives from each association will testify at the hearing.
