DE Self Storage Facility May Branch Out Into Green Roofs and Wind Power

Delaware’s Secure Self Storage has announced that its Rehoboth Beach facility is now running entirely on solar power. The Delaware facility stopped using the local electric utility on July 7. Making a further commitment to relying on renewable energy sources, Secure Self Storage is also considering installing turbines to generate wind power at that site and at its Coney Island, New York facility. In addition, Secure is looking at the possibility of an ecofriendly green roof -- a roof that is entirely or partially covered with vegetation -- for its facilities. [More]

Self Storage Facility Being Built in Historic Denver Hangar

Work has begun on a commercial development in Denver’s historic Hangar 2, at what used to be Lowry Air Force Base. Hangar 2, like its twin, Hangar 1, was built in the 1930s. After Lowry Air Force Base closed in 1994, the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum was developed in Hangar 1. Development in Hangar 2 is meant to provide funds to help pay for renovations to Wings Over the Rockies. The two hangars are adjacent to each other. After it is restored and renovated, Hangar 2 will include a self storage facility and several commercial businesses. [More]

New Jersey Self Storage Facility Goes Green with Solar Energy

Access Self Storage announced today that it will install solar electric systems at its self storage facilities in Bernardsville, Clark, Franklin Lakes, Kenilworth, Oakland, and Woodbridge, New Jersey. Each facility will receive solar panels that can convert energy from the sun into electricity (photovoltaic panels). (Access Self Storage also has facilities in New York.) Access will begin installing the new solar power systems this summer, and expects them to be ready for use by the end of 2010. [More]
