DE Self Storage Facility May Branch Out Into Green Roofs and Wind Power

Delaware’s Secure Self Storage has announced that its Rehoboth Beach facility is now running entirely on solar power. The Delaware facility stopped using the local electric utility on July 7. Making a further commitment to relying on renewable energy sources, Secure Self Storage is also considering installing turbines to generate wind power at that site and at its Coney Island, New York facility. In addition, Secure is looking at the possibility of an ecofriendly green roof -- a roof that is entirely or partially covered with vegetation -- for its facilities. [More]

New Jersey Self Storage Facility Goes Green with Solar Energy

Access Self Storage announced today that it will install solar electric systems at its self storage facilities in Bernardsville, Clark, Franklin Lakes, Kenilworth, Oakland, and Woodbridge, New Jersey. Each facility will receive solar panels that can convert energy from the sun into electricity (photovoltaic panels). (Access Self Storage also has facilities in New York.) Access will begin installing the new solar power systems this summer, and expects them to be ready for use by the end of 2010. [More]

New Webinar Focuses on Solar Roofing for Self-Storage Facilities

MiniCo Publishing has announced that it will be hosting another free webinar next month. The webinar, "Above the Roof, Below the Roof: Making Money on Both Sides," will be held February 25, at 1 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. CT/ 11 a.m. MT/ 10 a.m. PT. MiniCo Publishing webinars often explore ways in which new technology might affect the self-storage industry. For example, earlier this month, MiniCo's webinar focused on how to use social networking sites to support a self-storage business. This month, "Above the Roof, Below the Roof" will focus on another new trend in the self-storage industry: the production of "green" facilities. It will center on the revenue-generating possibilities involved in using the roof of a self-storage facility to collect solar energy and produce electricity. [More]
