by Holly Robinson March 31, 2014 2:04 PM
On January 25, sixteen-year old Makenzie Wethington, from Joshua, Texas, made a static-line skydiving jump. (That is where a parachute is attached to a line that automatically opens the parachute after the person jumps from the plane.)

Her parachute opened but then Makenzie went into spiral fall. She fell approximately 3,500 feet to the ground and suffered a broken lumbar spine, a broken pelvis, a broken shoulder blade, and several broken ribs. Her liver was damaged and one of her teeth was knocked out. [More]

Contest Winner Plays at SpareFoot's Party

SpareFoot Self Storage Finder had a clever idea at the beginning of this year. They decided to hold a battle of the bands – sort of. The battle was not carried out in person. The battle was held on YouTube. For the bands to participate, the band had to practice in a self storage unit. (The parents of band members are probably grateful that the bands practice in a storage unit. Having the band practice there saves the parents’ hearing!) [More]

Texans are also big-hearted – as the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) can attest to. Recently, they donated a check to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Galveston that was the second largest donation they’ve made to date. [More]

Do you know which city in the United States has the official motto as the “live Music Capital of the World?” Is it Boston with its Boston Pops orchestra, the Boston symphony, and the Boston Musicians’ Association that has over 1,600 professional musicians?

What about Philadelphia, which is home to the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Wanamaker Grand Organ, a jazz festival, Bach festival, and folk festival – and is the birthplace to early vocalists who were prominent in the early ears of rock and roll such as Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, and Bobby Rydell? by Kim Kilpatrick November 29, 2013 3:09 PM
This month, the Johnson and Ellis Counties in Texas launched a new segment to their Meals-on-Wheels program. They are now delivering dog and cat food to their clients who own those types of pets.

Linda Deese, with Meals-on-Wheels, indicated that pets provide senior citizens with friendship, joy, and a reason for living. However, many times those seniors do not have money to buy food for themselves or for their pets. Meals-on-Wheel volunteers often see the seniors sharing their delivered meal with their pet. This showed a need to provide food for pets, too. [More]

"Clear that Clutter" Sweepstake Sponsored by SpareFoot

by Holly Robinson November 21, 2013 4:27 PM
Years ago, my aunt read a book called Clutter’s Last Stand by Don Aslett. She loved that book because it helped her figure out ways to de-junk and de-clutter her home. SpareFoot in Austin, Texas, is providing impetus (like the book did for my aunt) to help people ‘clear that clutter’ from their home.

SpareFoot is sponsoring a ‘Clear that Clutter’ sweepstakes to help consumers win the war against their stuff that is stuffed all over their home and garage. People can enter the sweepstakes from now until December 15. The winner of the sweepstakes will get up to six months’ worth of storage from SpareFoot in the form of a $500 Visa gift card. [More]
