The Texas Self Storage Association announced this morning that it has donated almost $33,000 to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Galveston. The money will be used to help pay for medical treatment for critically burned children. The Shriners Children's Hospital has specialized in burn treatment and research since its opening in the mid-1960s. In addition to treating burn injuries and scarring, the hospital also provides physical rehabilitation and treatment of emotional trauma. Shriners Children's Hospital does not charge for treatment; children are admitted to the hospital based on their need for its services.
TSSA Executive Director Ginny Sutton and Director of Marketing and Membership Silvia Pendleton presented the donation to the hospital's Donor Relations representative, Jim Smith, at the TSSA's Round Rock offices on January 6.
The money for the donation was raised at the TSSA's 2009 Annual Convention and Trade Show. Fundraisers held at the convention included live and silent auctions, and a charity poker tournament.
"It's an honor to support an organization that does so much to treat critically burned children while relying solely on donations from the public and without charging for their services," remarked Doug Hunt, the TSSA Fundraiser Committee Chairman.
The TSSA Fundraising Committee has already starting making plans for the 2010 fundraising campaign, called Making a Difference, which will also benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital. The Texas Self Storage Association has been holding fundraisers to support the Galveston Shriners Children's Hospital since 2001. In all, the TSSA has donated about $230,000 to the hospital since 2001. The TSSA's next fundraiser to benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital will be held at its Annual Convention and Trade Show, which will be held at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel in Fort Worth, October 18 - 20, 2010.
The Texas Self Storage Association, which was founded in 1986, is a non-profit trade association established to benefit the Texas self-storage industry. It currently has more than 3,000 member facilities. In its 2010 Making a Difference campaign, the TSSA is asking its members to request donations from their customers. Customers who donate can put their names on a paper starfish, which will be displayed on a TSSA Make a Difference Wall of Honor in the member facility's offices. Every self-storage facility that participates will be acknowledged by the TSSA at the annual convention, in the Self-Storage News magazine, at the TSSA website, and in the TSSA's monthly e-mail update to its members.
