The National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) has expanded its outreach to members in 2010, beginning with the introduction of a new website and the decision to replace its award-winning flagship publication, Real Estate Portfolio, with a new bi-monthly publication, REIT: Real Estate Investment Today. The content of the new magazine will be integrated with the content that is available on the website.
NAREIT's members include REITs in the United States and worldwide. Its membership also includes people and businesses that advise, study, consult with, or provide services to REITs. NAREIT's new website is designed to be the Internet's home for "all things REIT." The website's intended audience includes anyone with an interest in or association with REITS, such as investors, real estate professionals, reporters, and policy-makers. The content of the website is searchable. It includes:
- industry news
- a library of industry data, such as performance returns for U.S. and worldwide markets, dividend yields, market capitalizations, and leverage rations
- information about upcoming events, including association meetings
- a "policy & politics" section covering legislative updates and regulatory changes, including state, national, and international policy issues
- NAREIT's Federal REIT Tax Compendium
- a career center that can be accessed both by individuals who are pursuing a career in real estate and by companies recruiting new talent
- video interview with corporate CEOs, investors, and real estate industry analysts
- registration information for NAREIT conferences
The REIT magazine will include features on major real estate companies, including analyses of their corporate strategies. It will also include analyses of various sectors of the commercial real estate marketplace, interviews with CEOs, and Q&A discussion features with leaders in the industry. The magazine will go out to about 30,000 readers, most of whom are senior-level executives in the field of commercial real estate investment. The digital edition of the magazine will be available at REIT.com. NAREIT's website normally receives about 100,000 visits each month.
Many of the features in REIT magazine and at the REIT.com website are available to members and nonmembers alike. However, members receive additional benefits, including networking opportunities, the chance to participate on NAREIT committees and work side by side with other industry leaders to produce policy changes, and access to an online member directory that is updated once a week. Resources available in the member resources section of the website include the NAREIT Handbook, NAREIT NewsBrief, NAREIT FirstBrief, REITPAC News, NAREIT Slide Show, the NAREIT Annual Report, the Online Federal REIT Compendium, and the NAREIT Quick Member Guide.
