Mobile Storage Supports Atlanta Green House Model

UNITS Mobile Storage, of Atlanta, Georgia, has announced that it is donating several portable storage units to help with the construction of the Midtown Green House, the green home that is being built to model green building technology at the 2010 Southern Building Show and Conference. The Southern Building Show will be held May 13 to 15, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The Southern Building Conference, which is meeting for the 17th year in a row, provides an opportunity for Southern builders, remodelers, architects, designers, and building tradespeople to meet, network, continue their education, and learn about new technologies and building products that are becoming available. The show will include education sessions on green building, and the Midtown Green House is being built as a model. The house is a project of Earthcraft House, the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association's environmentally-friendly building program. Progress in the house's construction can be viewed online at the Midtown Green House website.

The mobile storage containers donated by UNITS will be used to keep construction materials dry and secure during construction. The UNITS containers are made of fiberglass and galvanized steel, and are designed to be water, mold, and UV-radiation resistant. The roofs of the portable units are bowed so that rainwater runs off naturally, and translucent to provide a natural source of light inside.

In addition to storing materials for the Midtown Green House construction, the UNITS containers will be used to store windows, doors, and cabinets from an older house on the site, which is being demolished to make room for the Green House. The older windows, doors, and cabinets will be donated to the Fuller Center of Greater Atlanta -- an ecumenical ministry group that provides housing and home repairs for needy families in the Atlanta area. The Fuller Center was founded in 2005 by Millard and Linda Fuller, who also founded Habitat for Humanity in 1976.

At the same time that Earthcraft constructs the Midtown Green House, it will also build a playhouse for Project Playhouse, the annual fundraiser for HomeAid Atlanta. Project Playhouse raffles child-sized dream houses built by Atlanta architects, home builders, and interior designers to showcase custom home features. The playhouse built during the construction of the Midtown Green House will showcase green building materials.
