MiniCo Publishing and the Storage Business Owners Alliance are both offering free webinars on self-storage-related topics over the next few weeks.

Storage Business Owners Alliance (SBOA), a newly formed organization intended to give small to mid-size self storage facilities more leverage and buying power, is offering a webinar on Wednesday, April 14 at 2 p.m. The webinar will inform small and mid-size self storage business owners about how the SBOA can help to improve their business' profitability with bulk discounts. The webinar will also explain how the automated features of the SBOA's website work. SBOA's webinar, which will take 30 minutes, is free but requires online registration by Tuesday, April 13.
Currently, the SBOA has more than 270 member facilities. Members are able to save money with bulk discounts on supplies such as office supplies, credit card processing fees, payroll processing, and resale merchandise. Any self storage facility or operator may join.

MiniCo's webinar, to take place on May 5, will cover self storage roof facility roof maintenance--just in time for the spring and summer storm and cooling seasons. The webinar, titled "Roof Inspections, Maintenance and Coatings: Tasks You Need to Address Now," will be presented by Bill Shanko and Kathy Schoch. Shanko is the Regional Manager for D.C. Taylor Co., a national roofing contractor, and Schoch is the Sales Manager for KST Coatings, a subsidiary of the Sherwin-Williams Company. Like all MiniCo webinars, this one will be moderated by Poppy Behrens, Publisher for MiniCo. Shanko and Schoch will discuss the importance of regular roof inspections and maintenance, how to use reflective coatings to prolong roof life, and ways to save energy and promote sustainability with cool roofs. (A "cool roof" is a roof that minimizes the transfer of solar heat from the roof to the self storage facility. Some cool roofs rely on reflective coatings, some have rooftop gardens, some collect solar energy and use it to generate electricity or heat water, and others rely on maintaining air flow over the surface of the roof.)
"Roof Inspections, Maintenance and Coatings" is part of MiniStorage Messenger's ongoing self storage educational seminar series. Although the webinar is free, online registration is required. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, May 5, at 2 pm ET / 1 pm CT / 12 pm MST / 11 am PT.
Inside Self-Storage is also offering a May webinar, titled "Dealing with Tenant Life Changes: Divorce, Death, and Bankruptcy," on Tuesday, May 18, from 11:30 to 12:30 ET. This webinar will cost $39.95 (for a series of four webinars throughout the year) and also requires online registration.
