Janus Throws Its Support Behind Wounded Warrior Outdoors

Wounded Warrior Outdoors, a charitable organization founded by Ron Raboud, the CEO of the Rabco Corporation (a producer of prefabricated self storage building systems) has received another supporter from the self storage community: Janus International.  Janus supplies rolling doors and other components for use in self storage buildings.

Raboud founded Wounded Warrior to provide disabled veterans with the chance to go hunting, fishing, and enjoy being out in the wilderness, despite their disabilities. Wounded Warrior works with Otter Lake Guide Outfitters, which is owned by Dave Wabnegger of Princeton, British Columbia, to provide one space for a wounded veteran in Wabnegger and Raboud’s group’s annual hunt. Their first wounded veteran was U.S. Marine Blaine Scott, whose ankle was shattered when his light-armored vehicle was blown up in Iraq in 2006. Scott was very happy to be able to leave the hospital in order to participate in Raboud’s spring bear hunt.

Wounded Warrior Outdoors takes veterans from both the United States and Canada’s armed forces. In the United States, Wounded Warrior works with three hospitals, Brooke Army Medical Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and Bethesda Naval Hospital, to identify potential candidates for the annual hunts.

Wounded Warrior uses only corporate and private donations, and does not have any paid staff members. All its staff members work as volunteers.

“No matter how large our donations of time and money may be, they pale in comparison to the donations our veterans have made to preserve our freedom,” Raboud told reporters when he first founded the organization.

Janus International is hoping that it can provide four annual hunting trips for a total of 50 veterans.

“Janus International and I personally commend Mr. Raboud on his organization of such a worthy cause,” commented Janus president David Curtis in yesterday’s edition of Inside Self-Storage. “We cannot do enough to support our troops, their families, and the sacrifices they have made for our country.”

In addition to the Rabco Corporation and Janus International, Wounded Warriors Outdoors has another self storage link – Troy Bix, publisher of Inside Self-Storage, serves on its board of directors.

“My heart really goes out to this foundation because my son is in the U.S. Air Force and on his fifth deployment,” Bix commented in a January edition of Inside Self-Storage. “Being involved personally with an organization that gives back to U.S. and Canadian soldiers is really important to me.”
