Dog Rescue Group to Benefit from Sale at Ohio Self Storage Facility

For the Dogs, a dog rescue group in Boardman, Ohio, will host a sale to benefit rescued dogs at noon on Sunday, July 18, at Shepherd Self Storage. Money raised in the sale, called “Junk in Your Trunk,” will be used to rescue dogs from local pounds and to help care for rescued dogs.

It costs For the Dogs about $50 to rescue each dog from the pound. Then it costs another $80 to have the dog treated by a vet and updated on its shots. According to the organization’s website, most local animal rescue organizations are out of money for animal rescues. For the Dogs tries to encourage people to sponsor an animal to be rescued, even if they are unable to adopt. Dogs that are rescued by For the Dogs are taken into foster homes of volunteers until the organization can find the dog a home. Most dogs stay in foster homes for about two or three weeks after their rescue from a pound.

The “Junk in Your Trunk” sale is modeled after traditional garage sales. But instead of basing the sale in garages, For the Dogs opted to hold their sale at a self storage facility. Local businesses, vendors, and individuals are being invited to rent a parking space and sell garage-sale type items, crafts, and other miscellaneous items directly out of the trunks of their cars. Shepherd Self Storage has quite a large parking lot, so For the Dogs is hopeful that many businesses and individuals will want to take advantage of the opportunity to be involved in the sale. Located next door to the Shepherd Event Center, Shepherd Self Storage has parking for more than 400 cars.

For the Dogs is renting the parking spaces for the sale for $20 per space, or two spaces for $35. The organization will accept reservations for the sale until Saturday, July 10.
