MiniCo Insurance Agency, LLC, which publishes the leading trade magazine Mini-Storage Messenger, makes recognizing leaders in the storage industry a significant part of its undertakings. The company just released the winners of the 2010 Self Storage Facility of the Year awards, as well as announced the “2011 Self-Storage Almanac” survey drawing winner.
Winners of the Facility of the Year awards were broken down into six categories of competition: Overall, New Facility, Construction, Conversion, Specialty Storage and Renovation. The overall winner was Extra Space Storage based in Oakland, Calif., and owned by Extra Space Storage, Inc. The Construction winner was Northshore Pellissippi Storage in Knoxville, Tenn., owned by Walter Wise and Hugh Neil. The Conversion winner was LifeStorage in Chicago, Ill., owned by LifeStorage Centers, LLC, The Specialty Storage winner was the Stor-House Self Storage in Bellevue, Wash., owned by Gilroy Family Bellefield, LLC and the Renovation winner was Morningstar Mini-Storage in Sumerville, S.C., owned by HSRE-MSTAR I, LLS (a joint venture of Morningstar Properties and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital).
In the December 2010 issue of Mini-Storage Messenger, full length articles profiling the winning facilities were featured. Runners up will be profiled in upcoming issues of the magazine. MiniCo also publishes Self Storage Now!, Mobile Self-Storage Magazine, RV& Boat Storage Today, Self-Storage Canada, Self Storage Construction & Renovation Handbook and Self-Storage Buyer’s Guide and the Self Storage Almanac.
Monna Angenend, manager of Downtown Self-Storage in Casper, Wyo., won the Self Storage Almanac drawing and received a $500 gift card prize. Those who participated in the survey for the Self Storage Almanac publication automatically received one entry into the drawing.
The almanac is a highly-respected and valuable reference tool for the industry. It was first published in 1992 and acts as a statistical reference guide used by investors, developers, operators, financial institutions, real estate brokers and business publications across the world. The 2011 almanac includes statistical data, reports and analysis of occupancy and rental rates, valuation, security, financing, marketing, construction, CAP rates, manager training and compensation, population mobility, loan and investment analysis, and supply and demand.
