The world today has become one where people and especially companies are more concerned with doing whatever it takes to advance their own needs and desires generally with little concern as to what affects there are on the people and places around them in the process. That is it is so heartwarming when you read about the many different community efforts that a self storage company like U-Store-It is involved in.
In April of this year, U-Store-It announced that it would be starting a “Plant a Tree” initiative in conjunction with the work done by the people at thee American Forests’ Global ReLEAF program. Customers of the self storage company could request that the company plant a tree in their name when they rent through a self storage unit through the company’s web site of through it’s national call center. Every time they do, a donation is made to American Forests so that they can plant another tree.
In just eight months U-Store-It has already reached a pretty significant milestone when it planted its 5000th tree recently.
"We are very excited about working with American Forests and reaching this milestone in the Plant a Tree program," says Steve Hartman, the Senior Vice President of Marketing with U-Store-It. "It's been a success from the start and gives us a great opportunity to join with our customers in an effort to preserve our environment."
Along with working to improve the environment through the “Plant a Tree” initiative, U-Store-It has a Green Team. The Green Team is a group that is dedicated to doing what it can to discover new ways that the many self storage units the company runs across the nation can reduce their environmental impact.
"American Forests is pleased to partner with U-Store-It in its Plant a Tree initiative," said Greg Meyer, VP of Marketing at American Forests. "Every tree makes a difference and we're proud to be working with U-Store-It in its positive steps toward creating a healthier planet. We look forward to a strong and flourishing partnership."
Along with planting trees to improve the environment, the people at U-Store-It have been heavily involved with the U.S. Marines and their Toys for Tots Program. More than 320 stores in states all across the country are acting as donation centers for the program and will be storing whatever is donated until it is tie for them to be distributed. Over the years the Toys for Tots program has been able to put smiles on the faces of close to 200 million children.
"Building on last year's success, our managers are excited to collect toys and make a contribution to children in their local communities again this holiday season," said Hartman.
