Storage facilities across the United States probably haven’t imagined a bunch of dogs traipsing through their buildings as having any benefit at all.
But storage owners might have a lot to learn from some Scottish savvy. Letting police dogs train in the corridors of your storage facility can have some benefits for both the police and your business.
For those cop canines that help with bomb and drug sniffing and for finding lost people, appropriate facilities are needed to train the dogs under the best conditions. A self storage facility in Glasgow, Scotland, just announced it has completed its unique duties of helping to train dogs for half a decade now. Kangaroo Self Storage Glasgow who also caters to regular domestic and business clients has been aiding the local police department in the training of sniffer dogs.
The storage facility makes a perfect environment to test and train the Glasgow Police sniffer dogs because of the long corridors lined up within the building. It initially keeps dogs on track when training. And the long corridors that are lined at Kangaroo Self Storage Glasgow with literally hundreds of different self storage rooms, are spread over three floors. Anything can be hidden in those units and it’s up to the dogs to find it. The corridors can also be illuminated or left completely in the dark, adding a further challenge to the doggie detectives.
A typical sniffer dog training routine might involve dog handlers dipping something into a sample substance that the dogs are being trained to detect. Then the sample is hidden in a storage unit and the dog is released. It starts searching the building and hopefully has no trouble tracking down the substance. An Internet search of storage facilities in the United States who participate in police dog training came up with no results. Scotland seems to be the pioneer on the offering up of storage units for the good cause of training dogs that help protect citizens. If word gets out, however, American storage businesses might offer up some assistance.
The Glasgow facility helps hone the police dogs’ search and detection skills.
“Police dogs play an ever increasing role in policing within the community, so training in public areas is essential to hone the dogs’ skills and equip both them and their handlers to deal with incidents in all types of environments,” said a police spokesman for the force’s training unit.
But the benefits do not just go to the police department. Kangaroo Self Storage Glasgow gets the added benefit of securing its customers’ storage items more thoroughly. With regular sweeps of the premises by the dogs, added protection is given to the goods stored in the building. It also prevents the storage of illegal substances, something some storage facilities have been struggling with in the United States. The dog training is also a way for the company to support its community through the support of the police department. The facility’s Website may be visited at: http://www.kangarooselfstorage.co.uk.
