At this time of year there is never a bigger need for people to think of others and donate something to charity be it toys, food, money, or time. With the economy in the state that it is this holiday season there are likely going to be even more people looking for help when it comes to making this holiday season a happy one.

In the spirit of the season, two different Santa Barbara businesses have teamed up in order to encourage people to donate toys to a local charity so that a child can smile a little bigger on Christmas morning. Patterson Self Storage and Twin Cups, a frozen yogurt and coffee bar, have teamed up to help collect toys for a local charity called the Unity Shoppe.

The two businesses are collecting new toys up until Christmas Eve for the Unity Shoppe and hope to fill up an entire storage space at Patterson Self Storage by then. Those that are interested in helping can take new toys to either facility and the toy will find its way to the Unity Shoppe by Christmas Eve.

However, if you are interested you may want to drop your donation off at the Twin Cups. Along with offering convenient drive thru service for those wanting to donate in a hurry, Twin Cups is offering to warm the bodies of the generous with a free 12 oz. cup of coffee and a sample of frozen yogurt as a way of saying thanks.

The Unity Shoppe serves as a central distribution facility for many non-profit organizations all over the Southern California area with over 300 different agencies sending qualified people to the facility. At the Shoppe they can basically ‘shop’ for things they need like toys for Christmas, food and clothing, but for free.

In the typical year the Unity Shoppe helps over 22,000 people and distributes over $2 million in merchandise.

Many storage facilities around the nation get into the holiday spirit every year by getting involved with different charities like Patterson Self Storage has with the Unity Shoppe. The most common would have to be the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots drive. A number of different self storage facilities around the country become donation centers every year for the annual drive and typically donate the storage space for all the donations until it is time for Santa to do his part and distribute joy to those less fortunate.
