There are many things in life that we can plan for. Ideally would all have money in the bank for rainy day or in case we lose our jobs. People generally keep some food on hand at home so that they don’t run out. Beyond daily essentials like that we also try to plan for emergencies, i.e. in case there is a snow storm and your heat gets knocked out or if a rain storm knocks out your power killing your lights.
However, sometimes no matter how much planning and preparation you do ahead of time you can’t be completely ready for what Mother Nature may do. Resident of Mississippi had to face this recently when they got hit by tornadoes. When the destructive power of a tornado hits your house there is nothing a person can do but try to pick up the pieces afterwards and recover as best they can.
One of the many problems that people affected by tornadoes tend to have is trying to figure out what to do with the possessions they can salvage from the wreckage while they figure out what their next step is going to be. What they need is space in order to store things.
The U-Haul Company of Mississippi has decided to offer people affected by the tornadoes access to a self storage unit while they pick up the pieces. For thirty days people will be able to safely store their belongings at one of their self storage facilities free of charge.
"These tornadoes have caused tremendous damage to the communities we serve," stated Doug Weston, president, U-Haul Company of Mississippi. "I hope this effort will provide assistance to families that truly need a helping hand if their homes or businesses were affected by these tornadoes. We will continue to help our friends and neighbors during their time of need."
In addition to 30-days of free space in one of their self storage facilities, people affected by the tornadoes can take advantage of the Take a Box, Leave a Box Program. People are encouraged to drop off their gently used boxes so that others can use them. In light of the recent tornadoes, U-Haul is stepping up their work getting people to turn in boxes so that victims of the tornadoes can use them.
This is not the first time that the company has helped people hit hard by weather storms. Back when Hurrican Katrina ravaged much of the Gulf Coast they made the same offere to people in need of self storage then.
