Community involvement is nothing new to the self storage industry. During the holiday season companies around the country got involved with Toys for Tots, many offering to store and deliver the toys after they had been collected. While that is the most common way self storage facilities get involved with their communities it is definitely not the only way.
Many of them have been known to host food and clothing drives and have collected coats for the needy during the holiday and year round. Some have held blood drives to help out their local blood banks. It’s not uncommon to see your local self storage company sponsoring one of the local sports teams either.
As much help as people need during, especially during these tough economic times, they are not the only ones that could use some assistance. Many of our four-legged friends could use a hand (or paw) as well. One New York area self storage facility is doing what it can to make sure that they get it.
Manhattan Mini Storage in New York City has found a space in their facility and in their hearts for Mighty Mutts Animal Rescue, an all-volunteer rescue program that gives food, shelter, and medical care to many of New York’s stray dogs and cats.
After adopting a dog from the shelter one of the company’s employees thought that it (the shelter) was a cause that Manhattan Mini Storage might want to support.
“We try to support causes close to our employee’s hearts, so when Dimitrios brought Mighty Mutts to our attention, we were thrilled to help out,” said Manhattan Mini’s VP of Marketing, Stacy Stuart. “It’s in our DNA to be do-gooders, and once you see pictures of the animals Mighty Mutts have helped, it’s impossible not to pitch in.”
The company has since offered up storage to the shelter at what has only been described as ‘’a deeply discounted price.’’
Mighty Mutts is not the first time that the people at Manhattan Self Storage have reached out to the animal population. It has also made donations to a group called NYCLASS, or New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets, an organization that tries to shine a light on the sad life and conditions for carriage horses in the city. They have also given assistance to Animal Haven, a shelter for stray dogs and cats.
