Everyone has their own idea of what is good and what is bad. What one person may consider inferior another could consider top of the line. To use an old saying as an illustration beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That is also how some people are able to find treasure in what others consider trash, just like some of the students have at Paso Robles High School in California with the help of a local self storage company.
Members of the Paso Robles High School Academic Booster Club have been holding rummage sales in order to raise money to go towards scholarships for kids at their school.
“I have been involved in ABC club for three years and doing the rummage sale is an amazing way for Paso Robles High School seniors to earn scholarships,” said club co-president Nicki Fabian. “We just need people to contribute their items so we can send our Bearcats to college.”
Students that belong to the club have been collecting donations from members of the community for years and holding periodic sales to raise money. Over the last three years the group has raised over $15,000.
Paso Robles Self Storage has been helping out with the rummage sales by providing the club with a storage unit to keep donated items in between sales.
The group has hardly ever had trouble finding people willing to participate in the rummage sales averaging around 20 students and five parents each time. However, lately they have been having some trouble getting donations.
“A lot of people are hanging on to things or having their own garage sales or selling things on Craigslist,” said Elaine Hagen, a parent coordinator. “We are way behind on donations, with two storage units less than we had in previous years, although we are excited because we have more kids involved helping out.”
Items like desk, book shelves, and other kinds of furniture are often big sellers at the rummage sales, but the group encourages people in the community to encourage whatever they are able to.
The people at Paso Robles Self Storage are known for being helpful to the community as is evidenced with the storage space they donate to the Paso Robles High School Academic Booster Club. That kindness is shown to their customers as well. Tenants within 60 miles of the storage facility are allowed to use a moving truck for free.
