Knowledge is power. That statement has been uttered by more politicians, teachers, coaches, etc. and has been used in more movies than many other common platitudes. As overused as the statement may be it is exactly true. Without sufficient knowledge (of any kind) it can be incredibly difficult to do even the simplest of things in modern society which is precisely why receiving a good, quality education is the key to survival.
Many self storage companies are aware of this and want to do their part to help people of all ages and backgrounds achieve their educational goals.
StorageMart, a self storage company with facilities across the United States and Canada, recently announced the creation of the StorageMart Scholar Smarts program. Through the program five deserving students will be awarded a scholarship valued at $1,000.
The scholarship that StorageMart is offering is a rather unique one. Scholarships often come with restrictions and stipulations on them geared towards making sure that the money is used strictly for educational purposes. The problem with many of them is that they are often too strict and do not give students the means to cover other expenses like child care or even your mortgage.
“It’s simple. Any student can apply,” says Sarah Little, Internet Marketing and Social Media Director. “There’s no jumping through hoops. Everyone from single parents to adults returning college to high school seniors can apply.
“The most exciting part is that the scholarship money can be used for any expense from tuition to child care, even your mortgage payment,” continued Little.
StorageMart is not the only self storage facility to get involved with education. A-1 Self Storage in San Diego is a supporter of Father Joe’s Village, a non-for-profit group that helps minorities and other underprivileged kids achieve their educational dreams.
“Homeless students face extraordinary challenges and obstacles, and we feel that one of the best ways to encourage and support students challenged by adversity is by removing one of the biggest barriers; money” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage.
Students at Paso Robles High School in Southern California have been working hand in hand with the people at a self storage facility in their community, Paso Robles Self Storage. The company has donated space for the Paso Robles High School Academic Booster Club to store goods for their rummage sales.
Through the rummage sales they have raised over $15,000 to go towards scholarships for local students over the last three years.
“I have been involved in ABC club for three years and doing the rummage sale is an amazing way for Paso Robles High School seniors to earn scholarships,” said club co-president Nicki Fabian.
