Educating yourself on the latest and greatest in the self storage industry is a sure way to develop and improve your facility. Both storage-focused businesses and organizations offer webinars, often free-of-charge, for those in the storage industry to come together in a convenient, high-tech way in order to collaborate and learn from experts in the field. A slew of webinars are filling out the spring and summer months covering topics that are timely and topical.

Storitz.com, a self storage comparison and rental site, is offering a series of webinars focusing on the online world of increasing web traffic and acquiring rentals. The webinars are free and are recorded and available within 36 hours after the initial broadcast. The schedule is as follows:

• May 4, 2011: SEO Tools & Tips for Self Storage Websites
• May 18, 2011: How to Show Off Your Self Storage Property Online
• June 1, 2011: Renting, Not Just Reserving: The Legality and Future of Online Self Storage Lease Agreements

The webinars will be hosted by property owner, Adrian Comstock., and will feature Q&As.

“At Storitz, we have positioned ourselves at the intersection of what were once two very disparate sectors. Self-storage has traditionally been a low-tech industry providing a plain and simple service, and the Internet has been about innovating change and maximizing technology to make our lives easier (but sometimes more complicated) and our ultimate goal is to facilitate the transition to the Internet age for all self-storage facilities. And especially for Storitz clients. Webinars will be an easy and effective tool for doing this and are eager to both share our knowledge and address our clients’ questions and concerns,” said Comstock.

The Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA), which regularly sponsors webinars, has three lined up for the spring and summer. “Powerful and Practical Phone Skills” by Carol Krendl will be held May 24 from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.  The $25 webinar ($50 for non-members) will focus on how to:

• Learn to organize and prioritize your phone sales presentation
• Acquire storage selling methods that encourage prospects to rent
• Gain confidence in handling the dreaded “How much is a 10’ x 10’?”
• Understand how to sound less “scripted” on your calls
• Listen to actual sales calls and hear just what to say…and what not to!

On June 23 from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., the TSSA will be holding “Hiring, Firing, and Salary Traps to Avoid.” Featuring Pat Bell of Imagine More University and Brian T. Farrington of Harry Weisbrod Associates. The webinar will cover:

• Hiring/firing best practices
• Wage and hour law, overtime, bonus structures
• Employment agreements
• HR practices to avoid especially in self storage
