Self Storage Industry Shows Respect to Veterans

by John Stevens May 20, 2011 2:00 PM

There can be no greater sacrifice than to give your life in service of one’s country. The men and women of the armed forces that work every day, often in harm’s way, to keep our country and our way of life safe deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. Various member of the self storage industry have only been too happy to do just that and show them how much they are appreciated.

Community Self Storage in Cape Corral, Florida, will be doing their part to take care of and show respect to a group of veterans. On May 21 they will be hosting a community yard sale event to raise money for a local veterans group, Invest in Americas Veterans Foundation.

We have a large spacious area and we are the most centrally located storage facility in the Cape. It makes the perfect place to hold events that give back to our community, which is a big part of our corporate philosophy," said Edna Quintana, manager of Community Self Storage. "I was raised in the military. My dad served in the Army for 27 years. Consequently, vets are near and dear to my heart, so I'm very excited to invite everyone to come enjoy the fun, festivities and yard sale treasures on this special day!"

Events and efforts like this are nothing new in the self storage industry. A vast majority of self storage facilities across the country tend to offer some sort of discount to members of the armed forces. Some will have special giveaways just for military families. For example, the Big Box Storage Company in San Diego gave away tickets to tenants who served in the military for the San Diego Padres home opener this season against the San Francisco Giants.

Another company that is related to the self storage industry has gone the extra mile to help injured veterans still enjoy as much of a normal life as they can. Wounded Warriors Outdoors by Ron Raboud, CEO of the Rabco Corporation which builds pre-engineered metal buildings for the self storage industry, takes wounded veterans out on hunting and/or fishing trips atvarious locations throughout the United States and Canada.

“My motivation to found and pursue this organization is two-fold. I want to honor our wounded military veterans as well as the memories of my parents. My dad was a wounded World War II veteran. I can’t think of a more fitting way to honor them both,” Raboud says.

Not only is openly supporting the nation’s armed forces the right thing to do, it’s a very smart business decision. Can you imagine what would be done to the storefront of the place that made ant-military comments? Those that do not openly support the military may not get fewer tenants, but it will likely  not get more.

However, support the military and be proud of doing it, and the chances that consumers choose you over the other two options is pretty good.
