California Self Storage Companies Creating a Double Whammy of Good

There are many worthy causes that could use a helping hand to accomplish their given task. While there are many places that do try to give back to society by helping out with these causes, they can only be expected to do so much. That is why when a company, or group of companies, comes up with a way to help two causes with one stoke, their efforts deserve to be recognized.

Hundreds of self storage companies across the state of California are engaged in a fight against two of the world’s biggest enemies- cancer and pollution. Participating self storage companies are acting as GREENspot DROPoff e-waste recycling locations. Rather than throw old televisions, computer monitors, and other electronic appliances in the trash, people can drop them off at these locations so that they can be recycled and disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Disposing of electronics has quickly become an issue in the United States as technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace making many things obsolete in a relative short amount of time. Research completed by eRecycle.org estimates that the majority of electronics that are in storage are there simply because people do not know how to dispose of them properly.

The general hope is that people will take the extra effort to do the right thing with their old electronics and let them be disposed of properly (through GREENspot DROPoff) rather than just dumping them wherever and adding to landfills.

“We want Californians to know that when they choose to recycle their electronics, they’re not only diverting waste from landfills, but also supporting great organizations like Kure It,” said GREENspot President Mike Wachtel.

In addition to trying to make the world a greener place, GREENspot DROPoff will donate one dollar for every piece of eligibile electronics dropped off to go towards benefiting cancer research, more specifically the work of Kure it Cancer Research.

“We appreciate GREENspot’s commitment to making our world a better place, both by protecting the earth and supporting Kure It’s mission to find new treatments for cancer patients,” said Kure It Director Karen Jones.

The GREENspot DROPoff initiative was impressive when it was just involved in recycyling, but became even more extraordinary when it began collecting money to benefit cancer research as well. What truly makes it exceptional is that it is not any one company that is involved, but numerous companies in the self storage industry.
