After nine years as the Site Manager of the Fort Myers Extra Space Storage facility, Joe Gibbs has seen a great deal of change in his neighborhood. What was once a bustling thoroughfare of a community has settled down into a quiet, friendly area, featuring a diverse blend of people in a largely residential district. Gated communities and affordable houses line the streets, lending a domestic atmosphere to this seaside location.
Gibb's Extra Space Storage facility, for its part, is home to an incredible 572 storage units. Customers have been known to store all sorts of things there, from beds and furniture to knickknacks and business records. In fact, with the Gulf of Mexico located just a few miles to the south, Extra Space Storage facility has become a convenient destination for boat and small watercraft owners.
“We've got a few boats,” says Gibbs. “Then I've got a couple trailers, and some automobiles, too.”
One of the facility's longtime customers is also one of the area's biggest attractions. Located less than a mile to the east of the facility is the El Rio Golf Course, a beautiful stretch of forest, grass, and water. Featuring a full 18 holes, this course was opened in 1970 and is managed by Ron Bishop. It has just over 3,000 yards of playing space, with a total par of 60. Gibbs has a good working relationship with the El Rio, which stores a great deal of records and other items at his facility.
One of the manager's favorite places, however, is Nestor's restaurant. Located just a few blocks to the west, this Greek-American dining destination has achieved popularity with locals and travelers alike. “They have good home cooking,” says Gibbs. “and very reasonable prices.”
These are just two of the businesses in the North Fort Myers Extra Space Storage neighborhood. Customers will also find the Victory Lane Cafe, Fabio Ristorante, and the Phensri Thai restaurant within easy walking distance. Each features a unique menu, plus a strong selection of specials.
All of these destinations, as well as the North Fort Myers Extra Space Storage facility, are incredibly easy to get to. The Hancock Bridge Parkway and Orange Grove Boulevard bracket the location, intersecting just 200 feet to the east.
