Located in the Country Club Hills suburb of Chicago, Deanse Brown's Extra Space Storage facility is one of the top locations in the Extra Space family. Their three story building features 637 pristine units, including indoor, outdoor, and parking units. It's a combination that, according to the Site Manager, has earned incredible responses from her customers.
“We're a pretty modern facility,” says Brown. “Everyone is surprised that we're a storage facility, because we're right off the edge of a shopping center. Most customers that come up here say, 'Oh, I thought you were an office building,' or 'Oh my god, this is a storage place?' I tell people I'm so proud of our facility, because it does not fit the typical stereotype of what people think a storage facility looks like.”
From their welcoming lobby to their spotless public bathrooms, Brown and the Country Club Hills Extra Space Storage facility staff have taken pains to create a top notch experience for their customers.
“I always tell people, 'Thank you for coming to my store,' and people say, 'Oh, you own this store?' I tell them that I own it because I take ownership of it. When you come into this store, it's like you're coming into my home. I take pride in that and, even if they don't rent from us, I want customers to tell people 'Gosh darn it, that was the nicest place, and that person made me feel so comfortable. I felt like I've known her forever!' We want people to leave with that impression, so that they refer other people to us.”
This word of mouth advertisement has done wonders for the Country Club Hills Extra Space Storage facility. With nearly 70 percent of their business coming from residential customers, personal relationships play a large part in their success. In fact, many of Brown's customers use her facility as a stage in the process of moving their homes. To further this trend, she and her employees have scheduled an open house for the 23rd of July, to which she's invited several realtors.
“That way,” says Brown, “when they're recommending places for people to stage their homes, they can refer them here. That's the big plan. We even have a couple of clients who are DJ's, so they're going to come in and play music for us. So it should be fun!”
