You Never Know What You'll Find in Self Storage

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We all have opinions, and just because something is beautiful to one person does not mean the other person can’t find it hideous. The same concept holds true for the value of personal objects. People attach value for any number of different reasons. The reason only has to make sense to one person—them.

Often times, when a person is putting things into self storage a certain percentage of the stuff many people would consider junk. However, since the owner has attached a certain value to it, and have run out of space at home, they rent a self storage unit. As a result, some of the craziest things have been discovered inside self storage units.

Sitting in a unit at Amazing Spaces, a self storage facility near Houston, Texas, recently offered the use of one of their units to the Woodlands Children’s Museum to store an item while the museum tried to figure out how to display it. The item is an incredibly large set of teeth expected to be the largest in the state of Texas.

“We had an unusual request, but Amazing Spaces was simply amazing to us,” Angela Colton said, executive director for The Woodlands Children’s Museum. “Kathy and her team have been very accommodating.”

There has been no information released as to just how large the teeth are, but if they need a self storage unit to store them (even if it is just a closet-sized unit) they must be pretty large.

Celebrities have a knack for leaving items in self storage units. What they leave sometimes makes you wonder about that person.

For instance, a self storage unit that once belonged to Burt Reynolds had a lot of very interesting items in it when it was opened up. Much of it was bizarre and interesting enough that the items became featured in “The Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum.” Among the items were the last can of Stickum that Hall of Fame wide receiver Fred Biletnikof used, the canoe from “Deliverance,” and a horse carriage made by Dolly Parton.

Rod Blagojevich, the former Illinois governor and Celebrity Apprentice candidate, must have had some serious love for Elvis Presley when he bought the 6-foot statue of the King of Rock n’ Roll. It must not have been enough though since he left it in a self storage unit (it sold for $20,000).

With finds like these, no wonder self storage auctions have become so popular!
