Getting involved in the community can be a double-edged sword for businesses. On one hand, it is great press because the company is helping out someone or something that is in need. However, if the event is not large enough, it often goes unnoticed by the media.
Such is not the case for an event that the good people at San Diego Self Storage are getting involved in, the 29th Annual United Cerebral Palsy San Diego Golf Classic. San Diego Self Storage will be a sponsor for the tournament which is to be held on August 8th at The Crossings Carlsbad Golf Course in Carlsbad, CA.
"We are tremendously honored to be an event sponsor. We salute the work UCP conducts on behalf of the San Diego communities we serve and are particularly impressed with the high percentage of proceeds donated that remains within the county,” said managing member J. Terry Aston.
Getting involved in charity events such as this is nothing new for San Diego Self Storage. The company recently wrapped up a donation drive to benefit Homefront San Diego, an organization that helps families who have members currently serving in the armed forces.
In 2010, the company teamed up with a legendary athlete and activist, Emmanuel Yeboah, to collect enough bikes and sporting equipment to fill a storage container that would be sent to the country of Ghana in West Africa.
"We were incredibly moved by Emmanuel’s inspirational story and his desire to provide the children of Ghana with bikes. It’s a daunting task when you are trying to accomplish a goal of this magnitude on your own. When we were approached to participate it wasn’t a matter of ‘if’, it was a matter of ‘how much’."
The tournament in Carlsbad is not the first time that they have sponsored a golf tournament. They were the title sponsor for the 5th Annual Nativity Prep Academy Golf Classic at the Maderas Golf Club in 2009. Funds from it were used to benefit at-risk students enrolled at the academy.
While companies like San Diego Self Storage do get applauded for their work with charitable causes, there are some who are a little more skeptical when it comes to corporate responsibility. Whatever the ulterior motive may be (if there is one), there is one very important fact that has to come first. Every time a company like San Diego Self Storage does get involved a worthy cause receives much needed aid.
For that alone, they deserve whatever positive press they get.
