Marketing is a key component of a successful business. If you are the owner of a self storage facility, here are eight strategies that help increase the number of people who rent units from you.
Mass marketing. Television and radio commercials, newspaper ads, and ads in the yellow pages are ways that you can get the name of your business out to the public. These ads build awareness of your business and tell the general public about the services that you offer.
Website. Every business needs to have a website. When people want information, they turn to the Internet. When they want to locate a storage unit, they turn to the Internet. If you do not have a presence on the web, you are losing out and potential customers will not be able to find your business. If you can't be found, they obviously will not rent from you.
Online business directories. Once you have a website, list your business with online business directories. Being listed in these directories means that your business will come up iin these directories when people do an Internet search for self storage.
Social media. One of today's hottest marketing strategies is using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Create a page for your business in Facebook. Encourage customers to 'like' your Facebook page. Post specials that are only available to those who have liked your page. Ask your Facebook friends to spread the word about your business to their friends. Give them a discount when they do. Use Twitter to announce your specials and encourage people to take advantage of your special offers. Post videos of your site on YouTube. Create a profile in LinkedIn.
Community service. Participate in community service projects such as Toys for Tots, cancer awareness walk-a-thons, or book drives for a school or local library. This can be one of the most effective strategies. When people in the community see you in these activities, they know that you care about the community and will be willing to support your business.
Presentation of property. Your lot and buildings are a daily advertisement to passersby. Make sure they are clean and well maintained. If you have landscaping, make sure it is well kept. 'Curb appeal' will entice potential customers to use your facility.
Chamber of Commerce. Join your local Chamber of Commerce. Network with other members. Get listed in their directory. This build community awareness of your business.
Vans and trucks. When a new customer signs a contract, offer the use of your moving van. The van should have your business name and logo prominently painted on it. When the customer uses it, your truck becomes an ad-on-wheels and will put your company's name in front of the public.
