Owners of self storage businesses are very community minded. They participate in charitable activities that donate to cancer research projects, library books to local elementary schools, and car washes for high school clubs and sports teams. They seek ways to support and improve their community. Recently, a self storage company committed to support a scholarship program that allows inner city children to attend a local parochial school.
Self Post Self Storage in Suffern, New York, donated free of charge three months use of a storage unit to the St. Paul R.C. Church, a New Jersey-based church. The church holds an annual rummage sale to raise funds for its annual scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded to inner city students in Newark. Last year, the proceeds of the church's rummage sale provided tuition for 10 students.
The church will store items they have collected for the rummage sale, such as toys, furniture, and household goods, in the donated storage unit until the sale, which will be held on October 1. 2011. Sebastyan Kopolovich, Suffern storage manager, says he is "thrilled to help the St. Paul parish."
In other news, Laura's House Charity in Orange County, California, received funds from a benefit sponsored by I-5 Self Storage. I-5 held an Orange County Food Truck Faire. Many of the popular food trucks were asked to participate in the event.
Laura's House is an emergency shelter for battered women that provides safety, shelter, counseling, and education. The house was inspired by a true story about a woman named Laura who was a victim of domestic violence and who died from the injuries that she sustained from her husband.
I-5 Self Storage organized the food trucks to prepare and sell their specialty foods to community members and donate part of their profits to Laura's House. Trucks that participated included Dogzilla, Kona Ice, Slap Fish, Baconmania, Longboards, The Flip Truck, Rolling Sushi Van, and Dos Chinos. Tickets to a Dodger's game were also raffled off and all of those proceeds were donated to Laura's House.
Randy Scott Wong, from 1-5 Self Storage knows how challenging the economy can be for individuals. He said that his staff feels that it is "critical and beneficial to help others and give back to the community during these times."
