Proguard Storage Gives Customers Tips for RV and Boat Self Storage

by Kim Kilpatrick September 13, 2011 9:24 AM

The hazy-lazy days of summer are dwindling. The kids are back in school. The days of using your RV or boat is numbered. Proguard Storage in Texas is preparing for a rise in demand for boat self storage services.

"We know that as the summer ends, fewer and fewer people will be out on their boats or camping out in RVs, and we're prepared for a higher demand for our larger storage units. We want our customers to know that they can leave their vehicles with us for the long haul - through the fall, winter, and early spring - and not have to worry about them," said Blenda Stapleton, a manager at one of Proguard's Texas storage facilities.

Many of Proguard's units have 60' wide driveways making it easy to maneuver and drive a boat or RV into the storage. Their facilities are well-lit (both inside and out), have dead-bolt cylinder locks, climate controlled units (which is especially critical for boats), and video surveillance cameras regularly monitored by their staff.

"Our on-site managers are always available to help out with RV and boat self storage tips. Before storing a boat, particularly for a long period of time, we recommend cleaning and waxing, otherwise it'll be much harder to clean once it's removed from storage. Always cover your boat, even when using indoor storage, to help prevent dust build-up. As for RVs and trailers, check the tires to make sure the pressure and wheel bearings are okay. Also test the wiring - if it seems faulty at all, have it looked at before leaving it in storage," said Blenda Stapleton, a manager at one of Proguard's Texas storage facilities.

In addition to winterizing the engine of your boat or RV, prepare it for storage. For boats, clean the dirt and grime from the engine. Coat the propeller shaft with a rust resistant metal protection. Seal exhaust flaps so that bugs and mice can't get in.

To prepare your RV for storage, close all windows. Make sure you wash the fabric awning. Lubricate locks. Remove perishables, clean the fridge and freezer, and leave their doors open. Put an open box of baking soda in the fridge and freezer. Clean the air conditioning filter. Leave the parking break off.
