Self Storage Companies Make Award-Winning First Impressions

by Tony Gonzalez September 22, 2011 2:22 PM

No matter how good the end product is or how pleasant an experience is with a company, there is one thing that will always stick in a customer’s mind and make them wonder if they have indeed gone with the place that they should be going with—that all important first impression.

First impressions can be vital to the success of a self storage facility. When people are looking for a self storage facility to leave their precious treasures with they want to feel good about the facility that they choose. That way when they walk (drive) away they can feel good; that their belongings are in the hands of people that will take care of them.

Of course this can be done easiest with an intense amount of security. However, security can be expensive. While tenants want their stuff to be safe, they don’t want to pay an arm and a leg because a facility has security so tight that the President would be jealous.

Security is important, but tons of it is not necessary to make tenants feel secure. All that really needs to be is for self storage owners and operators to take some pride in their facility. By putting work into the appearance of the business, tenants and prospective tenants know that you will do everything you can to make their experience with your self storage facility a good one.

It doesn’t always take much in order to make a self storage facility stand out. Nice Self Storage in Nice, California, had a new sign installed near the roadway in front of the facility, and then added a flower garden to give the area some life and color.

For their efforts, the North Lake Garden Cub along with the North Shore Business Association awarded the facility with a certificate of appreciation for making the street they are on look better.

Extra Space Self Storage in Estero, Florida, took enough pride and concern with the appearance of the facility that it ended up being recognized for making the community look better.

"We are honored to receive the David Graham Award for Excellence in Development," said Gloria Barnett Regenold, Store Manager for Extra Space Storage of Estero. "This award validates the efforts we made to ensure that our facility shared the look and feel of Estero."

To add to the value of taking pride in your facility’s appearance, award winners are often announced in the press; there is nothing like a little positive press to increase the bottom line!
