Self Storage Company Joins the Fight Against Breast Cancer

by Holly Robinson October 7, 2011 5:12 PM

Anyone that watched an NFL game last Sunday noticed the emergence of the color pink on many of the players and coaches. Hats were striped pink, cleats were pink, towels were pink; the color was everywhere as part of the NFL’s drive to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They are not the only ones doing so.

Every October, a number of charities have organized a campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research (hence the NFL showing its support with all the pink apparel worn by players as well as several other initiatives all month long).

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the good people at Plantation Storage in South Carolina have decided to do their part to help in the fight by donating $10 of each new rental as well as a $1 for each UPS shipment that leaves the facility.

This will not be the first time that Plantation Storage has joined the fight against breast cancer. They also took part in the 2010 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

Supporting cancer related charities and research has been nothing new for members of the self storage industry. Last August, A-1 Self Storage showed their support in the fight against cancer by supporting the 18th Annual Luau and Longboard Invitational, “Surf for the Cure,” in San Diego, California.

“Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.” said Brian Caster, President and CEO of A-1 Self Storage. “It is estimated that one in three people will fight cancer in their lifetime. A-1 Self Storage is proud to support the UCSD Moores Cancer Center so that they can continue their research and quest to find the cure for cancer.”

Kure It, a charity that is geared towards raising funds for kidney cancer research and other lesser known forms of the disease, receives a lot of support from the self storage industry as well. It holds a special place in the heart of the self storage industry since it was founded by a self storage professional, Barry Hoeven.

Many facilities have done work to try and aid Kure It. Performance Self Storage Group, a brokerage firm, recently agreed to donate part of their commission to Kure It. During the Inside Self Storage Expo in Las Vegas last March USstoragesearch.com made a $5000 donation. The California Self Storage Association has a couple of programs that members participate in to help raise funds.
