Texas Self Storage Association to Celebrate Turning 25

When people turn 25 they get to celebrate their monthly car insurance going down; an event typically celebrated with paying less on one’s bill. The Texas Self Storage Association is looking to do a little more than that when it celebrates its 25th year of operations at their upcoming annual conference.

Sunday, October 16, 2011, the TSSA will kick off its annual convention and trade show at the Austin Convention Center. For the next couple of days, members of the industry will gather for an opportunity to talk shop and have a little fun. Those that are interested in socializing and doing a little networking will have plenty of opportunities to do so. Sunday kicks off with a charity Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament to benefit Shriner’s Children’s Burn Hospital in Galveston.

TSSA has been a supporter of Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Galveston for over a decade now. To date, the organization has donated $250,000. That is a number they will look to build on this year through the poker tournament, live and silent auctions (among items to be auctioned off is a brand new Jeep Wrangler, a pair of golf carts, and numerous vacations), and the Starfish Campaign (that has been ongoing since it started in 2008).

There will be a party on Monday night to give participants further networking opportunities as well as the “traffic buster” happy hour at the Moonshine Patio Bar and Grill to wrap up the convention on Tuesday.

While every good convention and trade show has a certain amount of planned entertainment and fun, no convention would be complete without a bevy of educational opportunities. With the recent changes in the lien laws in state, there will be a legal expert in attendance to help explain what the differences are between the old law and the new one.

Other educational sessions stand to help self storage operators in a number of different ways. For those that have yet to embrace social media there will be a session geared towards helping you use it to increase business.   Another session is intended to help improve your facilities presence on the web.

This year there will be a number of sessions of a financial nature from understanding small business loans and using them for construction, increasing rent even though the economy is down, and how to reduce your tax liability.
