Before you know it, the Christmas season will be upon us. This is the perfect time to start planning now how you can reach out to needy children. Amazing Spaces ® Storage Centers are proud to partner with the United States Marine Corps Reserves in the annual Toys for Tots drive.
The USMC Reserves have collected toys for needy children across the United States for over 50 years. The Toys for Tots program began in 1947. The wife of Marine Reserve Major Bill Hendricks made a Raggedy Ann doll and asked him to give the doll to an organization that would give it to a needy child on Christmas day.
Major Hendricks couldn't find an agency that provided that type of service. So, Hendricks convinced members of his Marine Corps unit to collect toys to deliver them to needy children in Los Angeles. They were able to collect and distribute 5,000 toys.
The following year, the Marine Corps Reserve adopted the program and implemented the program in 74 communities nation wide. This activity soon became a popular one for the USMC Reserves. They have delivered over 386,000,000 toys nation wide. Today, 600 communities in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands participate in the event.
Amazing Spaces ® Storage Centers in Houston, Texas, is partnering with the USMC Reserves to collect toys for the upcoming Christmas holidays. This is the third year that Amazing Spaces has participated in this event.
People wishing to donate new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls can drop their donations off at any of the three Amazing Spaces facilities located at Jersey Village (10830 West Road), Champions (9040 Louetta Road), and The Woodlands (18250 IH 45 South).
