Use Your Business Marquee as a New Marketing Tactic

A typical business marquee sign for a self storage facility might tell the hours that the office is open or that they sell boxes for moving. A Lock-It Self Storage in Pineville, North Carolina, has come up with a new marketing tactic for using their business sign. They post short football related quips that are witty or sometimes takes a jab at local football teams.

 Cam Newton is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. His jersey number is one. One season when the Panthers had only one win on their record, the A Lock-It sign read, "One is a lonely number."

Another time when the Panthers played New Orleans, the sign said, "They might come marching in but they will limp back."

The storage owners came up with a pun based on the word 'cardinal.' The cardinal is the state bird. The Arizona Cardinals happened to be the team the Panthers were scheduled to play. The sign read, "This Sunday it's okay to kill the state bird."

Thirteen years ago A Lock-It Self Storage owners Mitch Clark and his father, Joe, were rather bored. They decided to start putting sports related sayings on their business sign. Clark says that the sayings are meant to be fun and good-natured.

Most people enjoy the signs. The signs have also been good for business. Clark said that they have received calls from people who want to rent space from them simply because of the sayings on their signs.

So, if you are looking for a new marketing tactic, consider using your business marquee for more than just selling moving supplies and telling business hours.

Like A Lock-It Self Storage, you could posts sayings about the local sports teams. Or, you could post funny sayings, thoughtful quotes, or statements about local current events.

Double J Court Self Storage in Wickenburg, Arizona, posted the saying, "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." Another one of their popular sayings was, "What you see with your eyes is never as clear as what you see with your heart."
