Self Storage Companies are Getting into the Holiday Spirit

by Holly Robinson November 14, 2011 7:24 PM

According to the popular holiday song, the world is on the verge of entering the most wonderful time of the year as the holiday season approaches. To make sure that as many people as possible get to experience some holiday cheer, self storage companies in the United States and elsewhere are getting into the holiday spirit.

Every year it is common to see hundreds if not thousands of self storage facilities around the country engaged in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Annual Holiday Drive. Almost every day there are more and more self storage facilities announcing that they are participating in it yet again. A pair of them recently made their participation public, Pogoda Companies and National Storage Centers.

Rather than stop there, both Pogoda Companies and National Storage Centers have done much more in their communities. Both recently participated in a wine-tasting event in Birmingham, Michigan, to help raise funds and awareness for the American Diabetes Association.

The charity and holiday spirit is not specific just to self storage facilities in the United States. Many in the United Kingdom are getting involved as well.

Access Self Storage in Coventry has gotten involved with a local charity called Telegraph’s Snowball. They are asking people to donate any new and/or unused games/toys that they may have so that many of the sick and disabled kids in the area can feel some joy on Christmas morning as well.

“Christmas is a time of year to enjoy and we hope to put a smile on the faces of local children who are not as fortunate as others,” said Kevin Pratt of Access Self Storage.

The company has set up donation stations at each of its 56 self storage facilities in the UK.

“We are delighted to be running the Christmas Gift Appeal and are eager to encourage locals to show their support and donate their unused gifts at our drop off points.”

Back in the United States, LifeStorage’s (a self storage provider in the Chicago area) Mokena, Illinois, facility has become involved in yet another community event. Since they have such a history of giving back the Mokena Chamber of Commerce asked the managers, Kelly Butt and Megan Tolbert, if they would be interested in helping the Frankfort Township Food Pantry. Their response was simple:

“…there's always room to do more.”

Tolbert went on to add:

“The food pantry is essential to the growing number of people who are hurting financially in these tough economic times… LifeStorage is filled with caring humanitarians, which is one of the many reasons I find working here so special. We're always looking for new groups or projects so we can give back to the community, and this food drive is just the tip of the iceberg for us…”
