If you have been following our news for very long, you will see a trend in the articles that we write about the self storage industry. That trend is of owners and managers of self storage facilities reaching out to members of the local community by helping with charitable activities.
Storage Post Self Storage is joining with New York Cares to provide coats to New Yorkers living in poverty. Organizers of the coat drive realize that many times families have to choose between putting food on their table and purchasing a coat. Which decision do you think they make? Food. That's where the annual New York Cares Coat Drive comes in.
The organizers of the coat drive ask people to help their fellow New Yorkers by donating a coat for a man, woman, or child. Last year, they collected 58,000 coats for low-income people. While this was a remarkable amount of coats, they were 17,000 short. This year, their goal for their 23rd annual coat drive is to collect 100,000 coats.
The coat drive begins today, November 15 and goes through December 31. And this is where Storage Post Self Storage comes in. Each of their New York storage facilities is an official drop-off location for coat donations.
"When we discovered New York Cares' cause - providing coats to at-risk New Yorkers - we jumped at the chance to get involved. We believe Storage Post, with its many drop-off locations in the area, can make a difference in this campaign to spread warmth," commented Jack Chaney, chief operations officer at Storage Post. "We are dedicated to helping our neighbors within the communities we serve."
Individuals interested in donating a coat are asked to drop off gently-used, freshly-laundered coats that are in good condition. Storage Post Self Storage will make sure the coats get delivered to the coat drive organizers.
Storage Post Self Storage frequently participates in community events. The company's executive management encourages and motivates employees to take the initiative in giving back to their communities. They view those who rent from them not just customers but as friends and neighbors. Their company headquarters are in Atlanta, GA, and they have self storage locations throughout the East Coast.
New York Cares is an organization the works on several social issues in addition to providing coats. They have supported park revitalization, tutoring programs, and feeding the hungry.
